Week 4 Reading Reflection

1) The section on entrepreneurial innovations really stuck out to me. The part that really stuck out to me were the misconceptions because they changed my thought process on innovation. Along with this, I learned about the different types of innovation that I had no idea about.

2) I was a little confused about the creative exercise about the functions of objects. I did not really understand how this exercise helps someone become a better entrepreneur.

3) 1) What is the worst type of mindset to have?
    2) Is there a certain type of creativity that is more successful than others?

4) I disagree with some of the things in the creative game that Koritko brought up to end mind sets. I think that some of these things are good and definitely could help, but that not all of them should be done. Also I don't really understand how taking risks and logging their success would really work either.

Customer Interviews No. 1

From this assignment, I learned that there is an opportunity for the university to have a better meal plan. These UF students mainly had meal plans and argued about how there wasn't enough variety and that the quality wasn't that great. I think that now the opportunity is greater for UF to make a better meal plan so more students would purchase it.

Interviewing customers for me wasn't that hard. Im adjusted to talking to random people every day in my life so this assignment was not hard for me.

Top 5 World Problems

Top World Problems:
1) Global Warming
2) Terrorism
3) Poverty Rates
4) Disease
5) Corruption

Solutions (Most possible to implement to least possible to implement
1) Countries need to get together and sign environmental treaties that will lower the production of emissions into the atmosphere.
2) Medicine should be made readily available and cheaper for those in poorer countries who cannot afford them.
3) More money from the governments of each country should be spent towards helping poorer people gain a foot back in society.
4) Teach the youth to be less violent and to love one another. Also fight against those who are terrorists.
5) Countries with governments that are corrupt must be corrected and helped out by other stable countries.

I picked Global Warming as my top problem because this planet is the only planet we know of that is suitable for life. Without it, we are nothing. We need to focus on saving our environment and giving a stable home for our future generations.

I picked the corruption solution to be the hardest because sometimes it is hard to prove that a country is actually corrupt. It is also hard for non-corrupt countries to get involved in another countries' business without starting unwanted conflict.

Week 3 Reading Reflection

1) From the reading, the entrepreneurial mindset was very interesting and was beyond my expectations. It has every characteristic that a truly good entrepreneur needs to have. The top mindset characteristics that I think are most important are optimism, initiative and commitment.

2) When the author talked about psychic risk I was a little confused about it. I understand how there is a financial risk and stress that may come from it, but I was unaware of possible long term psychological damages that being an entrepreneur has.

3)
1) Do you know any case examples of people who have has psychic risk? This is just interesting to me to know.
2)What do you think are the top characteristics for an entrepreneurial mindset? I would ask this because I want to know his opinion of what makes a good entrepreneur.

4) I couldn't really find anything that I disagreed with, except the psychic distress which I have never heard of until reading this chapter.

Very Short Interview No. 1

I interviewed Gary Brashear, who started his own company that is the middle man for construction machine parts between manufacturers and large producers like Caterpillar.

1) What does it mean to be an entrepreneur?
Answer: Entrepreneurs understand a need for something in society. When I started my business I knew that I would be able to make something successful with the idea I had. Entrepreneurs know when there is an opportunity.

2) What are the main things that need to be learned in order to become a successful entrepreneur?
Answer: Entrepreneurs need to learn to be disciplined and spend most of their time on their idea. If they slack off and don't put enough effort into something, someone else will and they will in the end be the real winners.

3) What should be taught in an entrepreneurship course?
Answer: An entrepreneurship course should teach students how to interact with customers and ways to advertise and entice new customers to consume whatever they are producing.

4) Are there any helpful tips or thoughts you have for new entrepreneurs?
Answer: Always strive to be the best and never worry if you fail or if something goes wrong. There is always a solution to a problem and there will be better days if something doesn't go right.

5) Is there anything you wish you knew before becoming an entrepreneur?
Answer: I just wish I was more disciplined and that I worried less when running my business. Running a business is very stressful when things didn't work out the way I wanted them to.

Reflection: Gary opened my mind more about how to be a successful entrepreneur. There are certain things that need to be learned in order for that to happen. He really emphasized discipline and putting in a lot of work and to not be scared or worried if something doesn't work out the way you expect it.

Worlds Biggest Problems

1) Refugees fleeing Syria
Solution: More countries should openly allow and accept Syrian refugees. While many countries are hesitant to allowing them into their country, they should implement better background checks to make sure these people entering the country are not harmful to their citizens.
2) U.S. Debt
Solution: The U.S. debt is a world problem only because of the force the U.S. has around the world. This solution can be fixed by allocating the budget more efficiently by doing things such as lowering military spending.
3) Poverty Rates
Solution: More money from the governments of each country should be spent towards helping poorer people gain a foot back in society.
4) Terrorism
Solution: Teach the youth to be less violent and to love one another. Also fight against those who are terrorists.
5) Inflation
Solution: Banks need to get out of the market and let currency do its own thing. I feel like they are the ones who are affecting the inflation rate negatively.
6) Global Warming
Solution: Countries need to get together and sign environmental treaties that will lower the production of emissions into the atmosphere.
7) Racism
Solution: We must start by teaching our youth that racism is wrong and let older people know that it is wrong as well.
8) Overpopulation
Solution: This problem has been dealt with in china by limiting families to only 1 child. While this is very extreme, I believe that eventually the population will flip from rapidly growing to declining.
9) Disease
Solution: Medicine should be made readily available and cheaper for those in poorer countries who cannot afford them.
10) Corruption
Solutions: Countries with governments that are corrupt must be corrected and helped out by other stable countries.

Week 2 Reading Reflection

1) What really stood out to me were the different entrepreneur myths. They helped me understand that being an entrepreneur isn't as hard as it seems.

2) I was a little confused on the myth about money. I feel like entrepreneurs do need money to start something successful and need money to keep an idea running.

3) 1) Are you an entrepreneur?
     2) Would you say being an entrepreneur is hard or easy and why?

4) Again, the money myth I am not a big supporter of. I believe money is the root to a successful business because it allows the entrepreneur to expand their business, whether it be buying advertisements or expanding capital.

Bug List

1) The traffic on Archer road is really bad
This is mainly caused by the various amounts of retail stores and it being on the way to i-75
2) My MacBook battery is terrible and I always need to have my charged plugged in
My battery is old and needs to be serviced
3) My MacBook is slow to load new applications or webpages

4) My iPhone freezes when I open some applications
There is a problem with the software or something running for the applications.
5) The line at Chipotle is always backed up to the door
Chipotle is really good and cheap so a lot of people eat there.
6) My dorm hall gets very humid sometimes
Because the hall doesn't have an air conditioning unit.
7) My door slams and is loud when it closes
The thing that stops dorm hall doors from slamming isn't working
8) I park my car way too far from my dorm and have to walk
Campus parking is poorly designed.
9) My scooter doesn't start up right away when it's cold
My scooter is bad at warming up after a cold night.
10) My dorm hall reminds me of a hospital or jail
Poor decoration of tiles and paint color.
11) My dorm hall was built in 1950
Really old building that needs to be either demolished or renovated
12) I hate the beep noise when people enter in and out of dorm buildings
It is just so annoying to hear constant beeping.
13) The campus speed limit is only 20 MPH
Probably for safety reasons, but it's too slow to drive 20.
14) Transportation applications like Uber are expensive
Probably because they are gaining popularity and more people are using them now.
15) Good bars and nightlife are ages 21+
They make more money from people who can buy drinks
16) Southwest rec is always packed after 3PM
Just the usual time people are able to go to the gym.
17) Southwest rec is pretty far from the main part of campus
Poor planning by whoever made the gym.
18) UF campus is really huge and takes a while to walk it
It is that big because UF has many different programs and buildings for those programs
19) Dining hall food is not that great
Buying cheap food makes it cheaper for those who want meal plans
20) Dorm bathrooms are treated poorly by other students
Students are just not courteous of others and do not act right.

I really didn't like making this list because it seemed as if I was just so negative towards everything in my life. I did have a challenge making this list because I try to be more positive in order to keep a more positive mindset. Making this list did help me realize how entrepreneurs work, and that they understand the struggles other people have, or find ways to benefit others by creating new things that are useful.

My Entrepreneurship Story

Really, my only experience with entrepreneurship would be through friends that I have. A good friend of mine from middle school started his own work out clothing line just recently and is working on making bigger currently. His work started during his high school career and from the looks of it has been a lot of hard work and dedication over the years. After battling with legal issues, his website is currently up and running and making money. Knowing that one of my friends can make their own website and business really puts more motivation and hope for me in making my own.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because I am interested in one day starting my own business. I'm hoping that with this class I am more open to the ideas of entrepreneurship and making everyday lives better. Hopefully one day I'll be able to come up with a creative idea that ENT3003 helped fuel.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Andrew Dale. I'm from Tampa, Florida and I come from a small family with just me, my sister and my dog. Currently my major is Finance and I plan on getting a Masters in Real Estate. I hope one day to start my own brokerage firm or a different business if I get a good idea. Traveling is very big in my life, I've been all over the world to places closer to home like Canada and Mexico to places much farther like the Philippines and Italy. Traveling is a big part of my life and last summer, I was able to see the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii, which is the picture shown.
