The Twenty Percent

1) I interviewed the owner of Sips in Tampa. Sips is a coffee house that is known for hosting open mic events for local talent to perform. The owner did not want to be recorded so I will include a transcript of the interview
Q: Who do you think your target customers are?
A: Mainly younger adults who love coffee
Q: What are your customers unmet needs?
A: My customers need coffee so I provide that to them, there isn't really any coffee places around here besides Starbucks in the mall.
Q: Where do you find your customers?
A: I have workers advertising on the side of the road
Q: What are your customers demographics?
A: Younger adults or older teenagers who hang out here when we host events and also like to drink coffee.
Q: What kind of media do your customers consume?
A: Most of my customers follow the popular culture and wear/act in the matter of that type of media.

3) The entrepreneur does not really know what their customer's problems by the answer they gave to the second question. The customers I interviewed gave problems such as not being greeted, and the coffee shop not being open late enough. These differences might exist because the entrepreneur may think that the shop is very successful and doesn't have many problems, or the entrepreneur is just oblivious of the problems.

  1. You had a great series of questions both for the owner and the customers, but I think you were a little bit too rigid with your structure and did not allow room for elaboration on points that seemed important. The customers seemed to interpret the question about unmet needs differently than the buisness owner did. Though this did not let you get information about the way the owner and customer see their relationship differently, it did allow you to get perspectives about both what the buisness already provides and what else it could be doing.

  2. Andrew,
Great job on capturing both the customers and entrepreneurs feedback! It's probably wasn't easy finding people roaming around his store who were willing to be asked questions while being video recorded. Being a small local business, you are able to interact with your customers better than business like Starbucks that see hundreds of people per hour. It was upsetting to hear from your targeted customers that they weren't treated as well as I would think. Places like that need to get together and figure out a plan. It's not always the business owner fault but those that he hires that lack customer service. If you want to check out my blog just click the link below.

  3. Very good job with your questions, it allowed the feedback to flow from the owner. I do agree that you could have elaborated on some of the questions, but overall you did a good job. I am interested in this coffee place because it is in my hometown and am not really a Starbucks fan or any coffee like that. The customers provided some honest feedback and that is always good to hear! If you get a chance check out my blog http://ghioto.blogspot.com

  4. Hey Andrew,
Nice job on this post, I particularly liked the enthusiasm your second customer had about Sips. I liked that you stuck with the interview in a professional manner in order to get more information about Sips. Another thing I liked about your blog post was that you weren't afraid to point out that the entrepreneur you interviewed was wrong. I did not have a post for this assignment but here is a link to my blog: http://kevinleddysblog.blogspot.com/

  5. Hey Andrew, great post. You asked some excellent questions to both the owner and the customer. And the questions were great and they had good answers. I'm not sure if I agree with people saying your questions didn't allow more much ellaboration, I think that would be up to the customers. 6. Hello Andrew,

You did a great job on this post! It is too bad that the owner wasn't willing to be recorded during the interview. I think you asked very good questions to try to understand the basics of the business. Your questions to the customers were also very good. I think the owner should listen to their customers and try to make changes for the better. I did not complete this assignment but here is a link to my blog

  7. Hey Andrew,
All of the people I have commented on for this assignment have done small local coffee shops or bakeries which is interesting. I enjoyed viewing your videos of the customers you interviewed. It is nice to hear that local coffee shops are still able to compete with big coffee corporations such as dunlin donuts and starbucks. I think you did a good job with this assignment as a whole.
